Andy C Featured In Beatport Decade
During the ninth week in our extended Beatport Decade celebration, we move to Andy C. Few in dance music can claim career longevity more than drum & bass' most revered icon. With more than 20 years under his belt as an artist, label head and as a highly regarded DJ, Andy's reputation to utterly annihilate the dancefloor has earned him the prestigious nickname, "The Executioner."
Along the way, his legacy has cemented him as dance music royalty whose reign in the scene continues with sold-out shows all over the world. How has he done it? "There is no secret," he quipped back in 2013. "It's simply a case of loving what I do. I think people recognize that when they see you play and it helps that we all want to have a party together! DJing, producing, and traveling the world is a dream-and I intend to enjoy every minute of it."
As the story goes, at the age of 16, the Ram Records co-founder and current label boss (born Andrew Clarke) created 1993's proto-darkcore classic "Valley of the Shadows (31 Seconds)" alongside studio cohort Ant Miles under their Origin Unknown moniker.
This lone track became a lasting blueprint for what is now one of the most celebrated and influential drum & bass labels in history, spawning a current artist stable that includes Calyx & TeeBee, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Wilkinson, and many others.
